Good Friday

Am I a stone and not a sheep

That I can stand, O Christ, beneath Thy Cross,

To number drop by drop Thy Blood’s slow loss,

And yet not weep?

Not so those women loved

Who with exceeding grief lamented Thee;

Not so fallen Peter weeping bitterly;

Not so the thief was moved;

Not so the Sun and Moon

Which hid their faces in a starless sky,

A horror of great darkness at broad noon,—

I, only I.

Yet give not o’er,

But seek Thy sheep, true Shepherd of the flock;

Greater than Moses, turn and look once more

And smite a rock.

Holy Thursday

On that Last Night

Despite da Vinci, Dali,
And the rest,
I see a more crowded table –
Not only the twelve
But “many others”
Who followed Jesus and provided for his needs.

He had never excluded
The women before.
Why would he now
When all was lost anyhow
And the only task left to do
Was to lose his life
For his friends?

Watching the woman
Pour the wine,
Fill platters of lamb,
Bitter herbs, and bread –
In every way solicitous –
Would Jesus not have said:
“Come, sit with us?”

Niedziela Palmowa

A zatem siebie samych ścielmy przed Chrystusem, a nie tuniki, martwe gałęzie i łodygi krzewów tracących zieleń, gdy staną się pokarmem, i przez krótki tylko czas radujących oczy. Obleczmy się natomiast w Jego łaskę, czyli w Niego samego.
~ Kazanie św. Andrzeja z Krety ~
